Had a lot of fun camping at this State Park. So much fun stuff to do. I really enjoyed the hiking and getting to see the view up top is priceless! Its a recommended spot for a family trip that loves to go camping and hiking.
Gorgeous State Park. We went camping with one of the State Park programs for families. The ranger were friendly and very knowledgeable. The kiddos love it and learn a lot. They were vet helpful. We had set up our tend wrommg and they help.us do it right. The water is clear.A wonderful adventure.
Our camp site was on the Frio and had a trail leading down to the water. We stayed in River Crossing and loved it. Much quieter than Pecan Grove. A lot of people had string lights up which looked super cute but I recommend turning them off and looking up! The night sky was gorgeous. We could see the Milky Way.
If you enjoy hiking, do Mt. Baldy early. We went in the middle of the day and there were large, loud groups of people keeping the pace slow and leaving trash behind them. We saw a group of young boys (with chaperones) playing in a tree and actively trying to break limbs off. It really distracted from the beautiful views. The other trails we hiked had less than a tenth the amount of people.
Had a really good time here. Beautiful scenery, lots to do. A full range of campsite options from primitive, RV hookups, to cabins. We stayed at a site with a screened in shelter. Although our tent was outside, it was nice to have a more private area to eat and change, protected from the wind.
My main complaint is the check-in system. I've only been once so maybe this was an off weekend. I read a lot about this place before going and saw no mention of check in taking 2+ hours, but that's how long it took. There was a huge bottleneck of people waiting to check in, many of them pretty frustrated. We got there around 3, which is check in time, and we were 83rd in line. The woman who checked me in said they would be there until 10:30 at night. There was definitely room for improvement as far as check in pace goes.
A great state park for families. The amenities make it easy to bring out everyone. The trails are very diverse, well marked, and have some great views. There's a gift store, mini golf, and grocery. The only downside is it is popular and was kinda crowded. If you're looking to get out away from people you might want to consider looking somewhere else.
Well kept. Gorgeous river. Good walking trails. Beautiful skies. The food truck and little candy shop were new to us this year. Had a great time, a few weeks ago.
