She offers to put us in another property, not part of theirs and was about 10 miles away.
Great place to spend a week. The river was perfect for the kids, good fishing and the wild life was everywhere. We had a hummingbird feeder on the porch with anywhere between 2 and 20 frisky hummers at any time during the whole stay. The cabin was very clean, well stocked and comfortable. Management went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to include firewood, birdseed to attract bluebirds and redbirds to our picnic table and even a butterfly net for our grandson to catch butterflies. We were quite impressed with the whole operation and will be looking forward to going back.
The place looked as though it hadn't had a good cleaning in years!
They ruined our family trip to the Frio. I will never attempt to book with this place again.
We have been going to the Frio and renting with the Yaklins for decades now....I almost hate to tell you how wonderful they are as I kind of like having them as our own little secret! If you are looking for great family time and a great river experience, then these are the cabins for you! They make you feel like you own a little piece of paradise in the hill country. The cabins are clean, have everything you need, and then some! BEST.CABINS.EVER.
Don't let the pictures fool you. These cabins are not on the part of the frio river you float. We were assured that they were. Also, do not stay in river terrace #1 or 2 unless you want to be literally on top of your neighbor. We were told these cabins were highly sought after and upon arriving we realized they were outdated and tiny. We were relocated to one of the original 6 cabins which were nicer. They said the river is "a stone's throw" away from the river which is also not true. You cannot see the river and must walk through some wooded area to get to it. I had no problem with the cabin it was reasonably clean when we arrived and enough space for the 4 of us. Get fire wood before arriving to the site for the firewood they charge $5 for is overpriced and was from a fresh cut tree.
Their incompetence is more than evident in their lack of making their guests happy.
They could have tried to resolve this in some way but chose not to. Instead they ignored what happened and showed that they didn't care.
We had roaches crawling on us at night and roaches in the kitchen. The first time someone tried to use the guest shower, the knob for the cold water broke off rendering it useless.
Absolutely loved our weekend in cabin seven. Scenery is beautiful, cabin accommodations were comfortable for all. Although that part of the river isn't the best part to go swimming in, Garner is just a mile and a half away and that makes for a good swim.
My family and I go to the Frio river every summer and this was the only bad experience, and it was terrible!
I made our reservation for July 28-31 at the beginning of March. The day before we leave I receive a call from Temple informing me that they had double-booked us.
When I called the office and let them know about everything, I was told that the owner would give me a call back...she never did.
I agreed, only because everyone had already made plans and had taken off work. We were all looking forward to it.
We left the second day.
Waited a few days and called again. Talked to both Temple and Jessica, who both said the owner would call me to work something out...she never did.
After a 3-plus hour drive we arrive and are immediately disappointed. It was an old trailer on part of the river that wasn't even flowing. There was a pile of debris right in the front yard, the grass hadn't been mowed in quite a while, and the river was literally 2 ft deep!
